So far, my first topic about 100+ rides went really well so this is something that I have had on my mind.  To me, it feels like a lot of the new Disney rides out there today are back by some sort of movie, specifically Pixar.  Now I'm not saying that every ride backed by a Pixar movie is horrible (On the contrary...Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is one of my favorites!), but it seems to me that we have forgotten what the whole purpose of original story lines is all about.  I do have my thoughts on this, but I want to see what you all think about this.  For example, Expedition Everest has an excellent story and it is pretty much original with not any type of movie behind it.

Again, I am not saying that any new Pixar movie ride SUCKS! Not at all. Frankly, I am counting down the days till Carsland opens up at DCA and be able to ride the Radiator Springs Racers.

And lastly, I want to thank everyone on these forums for being very polite and excepting of everyone on here. It's nice to talk with people about a topic that we all love. Smile

Another good question.

My best guess would be, Disney sell much, much more merchandise for a Toy Story ride than they do for Everest.  I see kids walking around the parks with plushes and shirts with the characters they love from the movies, but not much from Everest or Soarin'.

I can't say for sure, but I think Disney sees more money in a ride they put a character they can sell toys for.

yea its like wylder said the reason they go with pixar and movies is basically because of the merch they can sell for it.
i read an article (i cant remeber where) talking about how all the movies in theaters today seem to be sequels or re-makes (again sorry i forgot who said this but...) he said the reason behind this is, it's sure-fire money. if you make a sequel or re-make you have at least a certain number of die-hard fans that will go see it even if it sucks.

^ *cough* High School Musical *cough*

But yeah, it's all about the money. Disney is so profit happy they'll do anything. Heck, I am waiting for (and looking forward to) a ride based off WALL-E.

Plus, when you have story that people know, people are able to feel like they're playing along with the characters, and can be immersed to an even greater level with their favorite movie buddies Very Happy
