Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

I am planning a trip from July 13-15th to go up north to check out my possible future school at CSUMB (Monterey Bay) and will be visiting the boardwalk later at night for thier 1907 SUMMER NIGHTS where everything is only 75 cents!!!  I haven't been there in 10 years and i remember going on the Giant Dipper at that time and being scared outta my pants.  But now I have no fear and I am super excited.  If anyone wants to come out that night (after 5pm) i would be happy to meet you.  Doug I know you are somewhat close, but maybe not quite.  I wish I could make my way up to SFDK next time, possibly if I'm up there for school.

Pictures and trip reports will come!!

So last week at this time, i was at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and I must say that it was awesome.  In fact, it was just about cheaper to do everything me and my family wanted to do then it was to park our car.

All in all, the boardwalk was even more grand than I remember ten years ago.  I pulled out my phone and made a live trip report after I got off the Giant Dipper.  Awesome roller coaster...over 85 years old.  And then the Hurricane, that beastly little devil of a roller coaster is pretty much insane.  It is so awesome that I can't believe the elements in it, such as the near twist and dive after a brake run.

And then a bit of glow-in-the-dark PIRATE mini golf, some hot dogs and soda, and then a ride on the gondalas back to our side of the park.

It is a much different experience than a regular theme park, but has much more of an "old-school" experience.  Great time Smile

Great to hear you had a fun time.  I want to go back (I still have not been on the Giant Dipper... aarrggggh).  I haven't been there for 20+ years.  Shannon has a hard time with the overall environment of Santa Cruz, so it's really hard for us to make a dedicated time to visit.

Well The Giant Dipper still rocks as much as I remember it last time (except, I was scared outta my mind 10 years ago) and it was awesome.

But I do sympathize with Shannon on the town of Santa Cruz itself.  I found myself getting very pissed off at people who drive and ride their bikes there.  No responsibility and just very rude people overall.  I have to say that we had near collisions about maybe 3 or 4 times.  But luckily, we did not crash at all.  I almost felt obligated to run over every biker riding through the streets. Smile

By the way (back to your metal music liking), August Burns Red's new album CONSTELLATIONS is pretty insane. Just thought I'd let you know...

I'm telling you, there's something about these mountain-dwelling Bay Area folks!!  too much granola or something!! LOL

I know that I need to give it another chance, but the last time I was there it was just so seedy and uncomfortable that I couldn't wait to get outta there!  So yeah, I make it difficult for doug to get out there, LOL.  sorry

Yeah I gotcha. It's definitely a different feeling than going to a regular "pay-admission" park because any Joe-Schmo can just walk in there and hang out so at times it did feel a bit overcrowded, but it was a much different and at times more fun of an experience than a regular park. I didn't have to go "bang-for-my-buck" and every ride.  I did what I wanted to, got a few hot dogs, rink, and even played a round of mini-golf. It was all good Smile
