Star Trek review. Trek is back let's hope the rides too.
So, has anybody seen the new Star Trek movie. What did everybody think? I thought is was great. Now I'm a Star Trek fan and I found this to be a great start in bringing new life to the old series. The movie feel's more simple and fun but deep with characters and story. It's style is more like Star Wars, the reimagined Battlestar Galactica and the Bourne movies where the camera is alway's moving, it's up close and it's bright with high contrast color's given it a very different look. Like other great franchise reboots a la Batman, James Bond, maybe Hulk and Planet of the Apes(let see if a sequel comes out for them)there is promise of more great adventure for this series.
Now I hope new rides can come out based on the this new reboot. I think Star Trek is a great fit for theme park rides but they seem to have a hard time sticking around. If you look at Star Tours at the Disney parks I don't see why a rides about Star Trek be able to stay of theme parks like Universal Studios. Now from what I found out in history there where many version of Star Trek as a rides or attractions.
Back in the 90's Universal Studios had a theater called Screen Test Adventures. Both LA and Orlando had this theater with a attraction called "Star Trek The Advenuture". This is where people would be video tape on Star Trek set's and have there own scene's be part of a Star Trek video adventure for you's to keep. Here some video and links.
Now later Vegas will get a real Star Trek ride and attraction with Star Trek: The Experience at the Hilton. Now this was really a great thing to see. To have a place just for Star Trek and with rides and attraction like the Borg 4d and The Klingon Encounter. Now as the shows and movies linger on the place suffer from what was reported as low attendance. It's close sadly and I haven't gotten to go there, but there is hope that it will reopen at downtown Las Vegas at the Nenopolis by 2010. I hope they do. I WANT to go there and ride those rides.

Now by the 90's Paramount Parks was formed. They owned and built theme park and rides based on there movie property. They had Star Trek character in their parks. But also they had a ride called "BORG Assimilator" at Carowinds in North Carolina. This was a flying coaster theme after the Borg from Star Trek. I rode this ride during the day and night and I found it fast and fun. Not too hard to ride just pretty well round ride. Now this was not a original coaster for Star Trek. It was a built at Great America theme park and was called Stealth. It was later removed to brought to Charlotte, NC Carowinds and redone to the Star Trek Borg theme. But as Paramount got out of the theme park business Cedar Fair bought there parks and the Brog Assimilator was retheme and is now called NightHawk. This was a Vekoma creation model after the flying dutchmen.

The most recent attaction for Star Trek is the Star Trek Tour going on now. This tour is a history and recreation of Star Trek Tech and a Shuttle ride too. Here a link to the Tour.

Well's here a little history of Star Trek rides and attractions. I hope with this new movie being a big hit (76 million 1st week) that this is a Star Trek for everybody. You don't have to be a geek, nerd, or treker to enjoy Star Trek. This is something fun and new but at the same time continue the Star Trek message of Unity, peace and exploration. I hope rides and attraction that will come out and be as long lasting as Star Tours. If Disney can keep a ride built in the late 80's going this long and now with the redone coming out. I would like to see Star Trek come out with there own that would last as long in more theme parks like Universal Studios. I would like to see a bridge command ride where you ride the bridge of the Enterprise and you hit buttons that fire phasers. Everybody will hit button that interact with the screen like "Mission Space" ride in Epoct. Here too Star Trek to "Live long and RIDE" forever
P.S. If anyone want's to talk about the Star Tours 2 like the SP podcast or forums that would be great. From what been talk about it's will have hologram technology that started from "The Black Cauldron" movie they never used and the Roger Rabbit Bus ride "Toon Town" concept they never built at Disney's Hollywood Studios. But there alway's been rumor that it was being done as back as 2000, but never anything real until now. Most Disney fanboy point this out as being something to compete with Harry Potter at Universal IoA once that's finish.
