Very awesome episode. I love all the fun conversation and everything. I am planning on sending in something for the 100th episode and giving my love.
Still excited about meeting up with you and the family, Doug, at Disneyland in a few weeks. You and I should have some good stuff to talk about on a future show after we hang out _________________ Travis LaRiviere

Amazing episode! Loved every minute of it. It's so cool to hear of everyone's view on this Summer's many theme park highlights. Thank you so much for this episode!
Among the many things happening starting 2010, I've been trying to keep up with news of DCA's renovation and specifically the Radiator Springs Racers attraction. Looks like they are really going to set the park in the right direction. I love that phrase (Disney's Construction Adventure) lol!
Also, the Fantasyland makeover in the Magic Kingdom looks awesome. It's long overdue. |

Now this is what I talking about. Experts and insiders talking about the news that has impact the theme park world. This is a prefect round table that is fun to hear. Great job.
For my money, I hope the first Marvel character that I want to see Disney develop for the movies and theme park is Moon Knight. I a big fan of the comics and it's a similar to the Batman vein, but only that the character has supernatural power from the moon with a Egypt background. It's a cool character that I have follow. What's everybody favorite Marvel characters they want to see first at the Disney parks?
Have a good time there Doug, you deserve it. Hope your family enjoy that Ghost Space Mountain theme. Hope to hear a trip report about. We have a incredible amount of episode to fall back on during your rest. Also there's that Coaster Radio thing out there too. _________________

Thanks again everyone. I see where you’re going Stingray, great idea! I have to say I think Arthur is definitely on the right track with the thought of Disney bringing life to unknown or smaller characters out of the Marvel Universe.
By the way guys – we’re headed out to Disneyland soon; make sure to follow us on twitter. We’ll be regularly updating it with pics and reviews.

|
|
You all mentioned the monorail accident on the show. Below is an article I wrote for work regarding the accident. I work at Kennedy Space Center in a human factors/safety department so that is the tone of the article. I thought it might be an interesting read. Forgive the formatting, it got a little off when I cut and pasted it from word.
In Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” one of the ghosts that visits Scrooge is his former business partner, Jacob Marley. Marley comes to Scrooge to warn him of his fate if he does not change his ways. During his visit, Marley explains how each poor decision he made is a link, and all those links combined to form the chains he has to bear in the afterlife.
In safety we often talk about the chain of events that lead up to a mishap. Decisions or circumstances that may or may not be related that can add up to an accident. In the early morning hours of July 5th a monorail collision at Walt Disney World (WDW) killed a 21 year old cast member. While the investigation is far from complete, the known details of this accident illustrate this concept.
WDW Monorail System:
-The monorail, which opened in 1971, can travel up to 40 mph and carries approximately 150,000 guests a day.
-Each monorail train is identified by a colored stripe and is named according to that color.
-There are three monorail routes and they are:
Express: Express service between the Magic Kingdom and the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC)
Resort: Round trip service making stops at the Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary Resort, TTC, Polynesian Resort and the Grand Floridian Resort.
Epcot: Service between the TTC and Epcot
There are also two spur tracks: one that connects the Express and Resort lines to the Maintenance Shop and one that connects the Epcot and Express lines.
-Safe train spacing is maintained via a moving blocklight system. The monorail track is divided into numbered blocks that are between 500-1000 feet long. If the spacing between trains is less than two blocks a computer system locks out the pilot’s propulsion control and applies the emergency break.
Links in the July 5th Monorail Accident Chain:
-Spur Angle: After dropping guests off at the TTC, the pilot of monorail Pink, which was on the Epcot route, was directed to return the train to the Maintenance Shop. This required him to switch to the Express route using one of the spur tracks. Due to the angle of the spur, trains must enter the switch in a manner opposite of normal travel.
-Traveling in Reverse: The monorail trains are equipped with two pilot cabs, one on each end of the vehicle. At one time, after unloading passengers, the pilot would pull the train forward past the spur switch, power down the front cab and move to the rear cab to operate the train. This allowed the driver to always be moving in a forward direction. In recent years the procedure changed and allowed the pilot to move the trains in reverse and continue operation from the front cab. There is no information available to indicate why this switch was made.
-Override of Safety Controls: When a monorail is switching tracks the pilot must manually override the aforementioned train spacing safety system.
-Human Error: Switch activation is completed from the maintenance bay. A maintenance employee was directed by the Central Coordinator to activate the switch to allow monorail Pink to transfer tracks. The employee stated that he completed the action and radioed back to the coordinator that it had been done. However, the switch never moved and there was no evidence of a mechanical malfunction.
-Oversight Failure: The Central Coordinator, the employee who controls the operation of the entire monorail system, fell ill and radioed a manager, who was off site on an approved break, for permission to go home. The request was granted and a second employee was called in to replace the sick employee. The accident occurred after the first employee left and before the second arrived. At the time of the incident the manager, who was still off site, was overseeing the train operations via radio. In addition the Central Coordinator is not required to be stationed by the console at all times.
-Assumptions: The pilot of monorail Pink stated that in his mind, when he was given the order to return the train to the shop, it meant that the track was switched and it was safe to back up.
In “A Christmas Carol,” the links in Marley’s chains were his own creation. In this accident, each link was added by a different person or circumstance. As individuals we must take charge of safety by following procedures, wearing PPE and calling a Time Out when necessary to ensure that we are not providing links in the chain of events that lead to an accident.
All information was obtained from news sources, mostly the Orlando Sentinel. |

I've been trying to join Twitter and send you a direct message to make sure that works, but Twitter is being weird and it wouldn't let me, so I didn't really bother with it.
I'll just have to pay attention to Twitter to find you guys. It's almost like "Where In The World is Carmen San Diego?"
